Elijah (Pt. 1)

Waiting

When we understand the big picture, waiting for things to unfold is no longer an unpleasant feeling, rather it’s a time to bond with God.

Watch the video at the bottom of the page and learn how the prophet Elijah waited with God and had some amazing adventures.

Memory Verse:

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

ISAIAH 40:31 (NKJV)

Going Further

Hi Everyone! A couple of ideas for family activities after watching this video:

1) Read 1 Kings 16:29-17:24.

2) Family Time.

o   Conduct a web search for some interesting facts on ravens. What are some possible reasons God used ravens to feed Elijah? (Note: they are unclean animals but also very smart).

o   During Elijah’s time, widows were extremely poor, even without the drought. What are some reasons that God may have chosen a widow to provide for Elijah’s needs?

o   Just as the widow first prepared Elijah’s food before experiencing the miracle of the never-ending flour and oil, what are other examples in the Bible where faith and obedience were required before receiving God’s blessing?

o   Bread was used as a staple, both with the ravens and the widow. In John 6:35, Jesus calls Himself the “Bread of Life.” What does that statement mean for us today?

  • Play a game of “pass the bread”. Pass a piece of bread from person to person, without using any hands. Each time the bread is passed, the next word from the memory verse is said in unison. When the memory verse is finished, celebrate with everyone getting their own slice of bread.
  • Make flatbread together and share some with a neighbor.

3) Activities.

  • Draw a picture about today’s lesson, take a picture of it and send it to Pastor Shaun so that it can be shared in next week’s video.
  • Scroll down to the music videos and sing along.
  • Have fun using the activities below.
