Six Days Plus One

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. Genesis 2 (NIV)

Watch the video at the bottom of the page and learn about how God worked and rested.

Memory Verse:

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God.

JOHN 1:1-2 (ESV)

Going Further

Hi Everyone! A couple of ideas for family activities after watching this video:

1) Read Genesis 1:1-2:3.

2) Family Time.

Using a disposable table cloth taped to the floor (Dollar Tree sells them) make a variation of a Twister game, but instead of colored circles, let your children draw pictures of the days of creation. Have fun playing it together!

Prepare together and share food each day of the week that depicts that day of creation.  Talk about each creation as you enjoy eating them. Here are some examples, or come up with your own!

Day 1: chocolate and vanilla ice cream with Oreo cookies, representing darkness and light.

Day 2: Blue Gatorade, blue jello, or cupcakes with blue frosting, representing  the sky.

Day 3: Fruit salad, representing  seed-bearing plants

Day 4: Campbell’s Chicken and Stars soup or cookies made with star-shaped cookie cutters, representing the stars. (Other option to include both day and night – make a cake and decorate one half as day and the other half as night).

Day 5: Goldfish crackers swimming in soup from Day 4 (excellent time to talk about God’s perfect order), or cooked fish or chicken, representing both flying and swimming creatures .

Day 6: Animal crackers, representing land creatures.  Create placemats with each child’s name. Discuss how God gives man dominion over all the other things He created.

Day 7: Rest! Hang out together and play a game or watch a fun movie.

Pray together as a family.
