Going Further
Hi Everyone! A couple of ideas for family activities after watching the video:
1) Read/Review Philippians 2
2) Family Time.
- Discussion. In today’s video, Miss Lana shared that true joy does not come from our circumstances but from accepting Jesus into our hearts. She also referred to Philippians chapter 2 where Paul tells us that in order to truly be joyful, we need to be like Jesus. When Paul talked about Jesus, he listed several qualities. Can you name some of them? We are going to focus on the quality of humility. One way we show humility is by placing God first, others second, and yourself last. What word did Miss Lana write on the board to help us remember what we receive when we practice this kind of humility? Paul was in prison when he wrote this letter to the church in Philippi, and yet what does Paul say in 2:17? By encouraging and teaching the Philippians, was he placing Jesus and others above himself? Is there someone you can encourage this week? Try it! Talk to your mom and dad about how this makes you feel.
- Activity. Draw a picture of a shoe on cardstock. Make copies for each child. Cut out holes where the shoe lace would go. Explain that one way of seeing someone’s needs is to “walk a mile in their shoes.” In other words, really get to know them and therefore know their needs. Have your child pick a person or persons to bless this week, and each time your child does something encouraging and thoughtful, lace one more hole. The goal is to lace the shoe all the way up, but don’t stop there! Keep going with the thoughtful gestures!
- Extra Challenge. Read The Word of the Week, “Freedom” with Miss Sarah. We have received freedom from paying the price of our sin. Jesus paid it. How does that affect your desire to follow God’s law? Knowing that we have freedom with Jesus, does that make you joyful? When you are obedient to Him, does that make you joyful? Can you think of an example?
- Pray together as a family. Is there someone in your family who has not yet accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior?
3) Activities.
- Draw a picture about today’s lesson, or color the printable coloring sheet (see below), take a picture and send it to Pastor Shaun or send it to office@hockinson.org so that it can be shared in next week’s video.
