Peace Wk 2

Highly Favored

The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Luke 1:28 NIV

This week we learn how an angel of God tells Mary that she is going to have a child. At first, Mary was troubled, but her reply to the angel expressed a peace in her heart. Watch the video below to learn more.

Memory Verse:

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

LUKE 1:38 NIV

Going Further

Hi Everyone! A couple of ideas for family activities after watching the video:

1) Read/Review: Luke 1:26-38

2) Family Time:

  • Family Discussion: Today, in Luke 1:26-38, we learned how the Angel Gabriel told Mary she would have a Son. What was the first thing the angel said to Mary in verse 28? The angel repeats something in verse 30. What does the angel repeat to Mary? What do you think it means to be favored by God? Do you think that Mary knew God because she made it a habit of spending time with Him every day? Do you think that because she knew and trusted God that even though she was afraid at first because of what the angel said in verses 31, 32, and 33, she also was able to give the answer she did because she knew God so well? What did Mary say in verse 38? How do you think you would respond if an angel, surrounded by bright light, suddenly appeared to you and told you that God had an important message for you? Describe how you would respond? Do you think it’s important to spend time with Jesus every day, praying and thanking Him so that you know and trust Him? How will that bring you peace during scary times?
  • Going further: Read Isaiah 9:6-7. The prophet Isaiah lived approximately 700 years before Jesus was born. Discuss what a prophecy is and the prophecies in this passage as they relate to Jesus’ birth and life. The end of verse 6 calls Him the Prince of Peace. What does that mean? How does Jesus provide peace in your life?
  • Family activity: Sing Christmas carols together – Angels We Have Heard on High and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
  • Pray together as a family: Is there someone in your family who has not yet accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior?
