Self-Control

Self Control

But hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

TITUS 1:8

Self-control is the last in this series of teaching regarding the Fruit of the Spirit. While it may be the last in the series, it by no means is unimportant. We must learn to control what we say, think, and do so that we may bring glory and honor to God. Watch the video below to learn how self-control can be a part of your character!

Memory Verse:

A fool always loses his temper, but a wise person holds it back.

PROVERBS 29:11

Going Further

Hi Everyone! A couple of ideas for family time after watching the video. Let’s purpose in all our actions and thoughts to glorify God by demonstrating self-control. Let’s go out of our way to give others the benefit of the doubt, to not overindulge in eating or shopping, and keep our temper in check!

Family Time:

  1. Read/Review: Matthew 4:1-11
  2. Activity: Use the following acrostic or create your own. Make a poster and decorate it.
    • S is for Scintillating, you shine brilliantly
    • E is for Endearing, beloved by all
    • L is for Lovely, hearts melt in fondness of you
    • F is for Fantastic, you are amazing
    • C is for Creative, your works are most original
    • O is for Optimistic, ever upbeat
    • N is for Nurturing, you bring out the good in people
    • T is for Tantalizing, thrilling the senses
    • R is for Reasonable, ever sensible
    • O is for Organized, you have it together
    • L is for Laid-back, not sweating the small stuff
  3. Definition of SELF-CONTROL vs. Self-Indulgence. Instant obedience to the initial promptings of God’s Spirit when I would rather do something that feels good to my flesh – like showing off, lashing out at someone to get even, or eating all of the chocolate. (Galatians 5:24–25)
  4. Pray together as a family: Is there someone in your family who has not yet accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior?
